Hi guys/gals,
I am new to this site and was wondering whether there were any of you who had started to become ill relatively recently. I served in the Royal Navy embarked on RFA Argus which was deployed well north for virtually the entire duration, exposed to oil fires etc. When i left the Royal Navy in Spring 1991 i noticed soon afterwards that my fingertips were blistering and layers of thick skin would form and then peel off. This continues to the present day. As time progressed i began to suffer pain in various joints/muscles, particularly in my knees and shoulders/neck but they could occur it seemed almost anywhere at any time. I had always dismissed this as signs of getting old, or being exposed to the cold too much. Over the past 5 years things have got progressively worse whereby i have suffered with severe pains in my hands and feet, and more recently in my shoulders. My short term memory seems to be deteriorating at an alarming rate and along with it my ability to concentrate for long periods of time. Last christmas i began to notice a pain in my throat and this has continued to the present day, despite various doses of antibiotics. My tonsils are huge and virtually touch at times. In addition to this i have get a bone dry mouth at times and have been prescribed an artificial saliva spray. I don't want to go on too much the the symptoms but there are quiet a few more which i have had to write downs so as to remember to tell the doctor, really bad nightsweats being a more recent one. I was curious as to how these compare with your experiences. I appreciate that these are mild compared to lots of you people but i am now beginning to think seriously that these may be due to my service during 1991 Gulf war - even though it is now 20 years later
