Each year, in March, the NGVFA hold a 5 day respite break for full members of the Charity and their dependants. Held each year since 2000, hundreds of veterans and their families have attended; it is now an annual event that is very much looked forward to by all the members, who return year on year.
This is a break for the whole family, not just the veteran. The majority are on very low incomes, so for many this is a lifeline, their only break, and something they look forward to each year. Many feel they would not be able to afford to attend but we can apply for funding for the whole family.
We have a themed fancy dress night which is enjoyed by all the members. The theme for 2012 is "Roman"
The respite break is focused on giving the veterans, partners and children what they need; this may be information for some, time to relax with friends, or time to spend together as a family. The benefits gained from this Respite Break are immeasurable and help families to tackle their problems in a more positive and productive way.
